Or the opposite could cast a down-beat feeling to the new retiree. This becomes to some a time of increasing illness, approaching death of friends, family and self. It could mean the decline of creativity and physical prowess and even worse a period of diminishing menial ability.
There is no doubt that once into the retirement period we are closer to death and in a declining physical state. Illnesses appear more readily and mental and physical decline increase. We are taught that such changes are part of the inevitable life cycle. Every creature alive faces decline that eventually leads to death. No one escapes this cycle. Thus each of us must learn to change the negative scenario and turn off the pessimistic feelings that accompany aging. Such negativity is not inevitable or necessarily even part of our life cycle. Many seniors live happy productive and fully creative lives into their 80's and 90's and even into their 100's.
Is there something different with the elderly who remain productive, active and happy until they reach the end of their lives? Yes, they believe in something very essential to leading a productive and meaningful life until death at an old age. It is an attitude, a belief, what is called a positive mindset. These are people who fully believe that they control their moods, attitudes and direction. They are self-directed, optimistic, deal with problems, including sickness, without succumbing to a negative attitude. They live fully with a positive frame of mind.
What can you do to establish and develop such a positive and optimistic mindset that will enhance the pleasure you find in your retirement period?
